Size of iOS

Yesterday I have updated my iOS to version 12.0. My iPhone has only 16 GB of storage and that sometimes causes troubles. Occasionaly I look at the iPhone Storage in Settings and I do some cleaning. I was surprised and wondering why does the "Other", which is basically the iOS, take so much space. Apple should know that there are still people in this world that use iPhones with 16 GB storage every day. I followed several recipes how to increase the free space in iPhone, but still: why does the iOS take so much space? This week I have found an article on OSXDaily ,  describing a very unusual way (for me) how to reduce the "Other" storage space. Before I tried this method, my "Other" took around 8 GB of storage. Then I connected my iPhone to iTunes, actually I did a back up, one restart and in total waited approximately 30 minutes (the iPhone was still connected to iTunes via cable). No idea what happened but the system really reduced its size, to 6.7 GB...

The grayscale challenge

There was an article in NY Times about turning phones to grayscale. I found it while waiting in line in a theatre, January 18th. The line was long and as anybody else in the line, I was holding my phone in front of my face, reading and texting. The basic idea is that the colors bring attention and with turning them down you can control the attention. I do not want to repeat once written, here is the original article: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/12/technology/grayscale-phone.html Immediately I used the display filter on my iPhone and turned display into grayscale. I did not find it strange first. After more than two months, I turned the display back to normal color mode. Here are my personal observations: Text : Obviously, no problems. Reading online can be even better, because you can ignore ads more easily. Camera : I like black and white photography, it was OK. Images : My photos were OK, however with some pictures from other people I wished to see colors. Video : Watc...

Jailbreaking and unlocking iPhone 3GS

On Monday I have bought the iPhone 3GS. According to the offer it should be unlocked. According to the pretty girl, that was selling me the phone, too. Well accoding to the iPhone itself - not that quite. I tried two SIM cards before buying it but the activation failed and even not-inserted SIM card was not recognized. Because I had no experience I thought it needs to be connected to the iTunes and some updates or restore should be performed prior to activation. So I have bought it and took home. I did the update in the evening and still the same. My SIM card was not active. I got No service all the time. The girls had perhaps jailbreak on her phone even without knowing it. She just didn't know anything. And that was the problem. So next whole day - literally whole day - I was trying to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone 3GS. In order to see if other iOS can be installed and find out what actually the problem is. The motivation was to activate the iPhone without the SIM card. ...
